On our recent trip to California, we spent a weekend driving the Pacific Coast Highway. A trip to California isn’t complete for us without driving the highway because it is relaxing and so very beautiful. The day is full of scenery that is perfect for photos.
I recently bought this blue floral dress from Banana Republic Factory. When I initially put it on I was unsure about it. The dress is a midi length which I sometimes find to be tricky. I am 5’5, but when I put a midi dress on I always feel like I am too short for it. I sent a picture of myself wearing the dress to a friend asking for her opinion on it. She said “I love it! It’s so 60’s California Highway chic!” At first I laughed at the description, but then I realized that maybe she was on to something. I then decided it would be perfect to wear for the day that we drive along the Pacific Coast!
The shades of the dress matched the scenery of the coastline with similar shades of rich blues. Due to all of the rain that California has received this year, there were also yellow wildflowers growing all over so that also made the photos even more dreamy. To give the feminine dress more of a boho feel, I added a large straw floppy hat and a pair of straw slip-on mules from Target. Typically I would wear a pair of heels with a midi dress, but heels aren’t practical for a day of walking along the coast. These accessories made the dress look a little more casual and also complemented the style really well. The hat even has a subtle blue ribbon which matches the light shade of blue in the dress perfectly. The whole outfit together has a 60’s vibe to it but with a modern take. The dress also comes in a white and gray color that is another great option for spring and can be worn for a variety of occasions.
Being inspired by the trends of another decade but putting a modern twist on it is always a fun way to play with different styles. Has anyone ever done this with certain trends from the past? I would love to hear below!
