HOW TO WEAR TIE DYE WITH A CLASSIC STYLE

Yellow tie-dye midi dress

In the words of Nina Garcia, tie dye is having a major moment right now. I swore I would never wear the trend again because I never want to relive 90’s fashion, but I have realized that the trend can be elevated and sophisticated. Today’s post focuses on how to wear tie dye with a classic style.

If you are like me and prefer more classic and dressed up styles, a tie dye t-shirt or crop top isn’t your thing. Seeing items like this in stores made me dismiss the trend immediately, but over time I have found some tie dye items that have a much more elevated look. This yellow tie dye midi dress from Target is the perfect example of that. The color is bright and cheery and perfect for the upcoming spring season, but if styled correctly the dress still looks dressed up. I personally styled it with light blue block heels and a pair of multi-color statement earrings.

In addition to this yellow dress, I am sharing 8 other tie dye pieces that I think have a sophisticated and classic style:

Tie Dye Long Sleeve Midi Wrap Dress, Nordstrom:

A wrap dress is always a classic wardrobe staple and a flattering silhouette for anyone. Given the silhouette and the simple black and white color scheme, this dress paired with strappy heels and statement earrings is a great classic look for a wedding or other special event.

Tie Dye Ruffle Shoulder Top, Madewell:

Brown tie dye blouse

I always love the look of a blouse, and this tie dye blouse from Madewell has a great neutral color scheme and adorable ruffle detailing at the shoulders. This blouse would look great with a cream skirt or a pair of white pants. Nude or cognac heels would dress up the look perfectly.

Tie Dye Midi Skirt, Nordstrom

Tie dye satin midi skirt

This skirt mixes two popular trends into one: a satin midi skirt and a tie dye print. I love that this skirt has a sleek silhouette and the color of the tie dye print is very subtle and pastel. This skirt would look great with a chunky pastel sweater and nude heels for a spring look, or even for an Easter outft.

Cowl Neck Midi Dress, Nordstrom

This midi dress has a romantic fit but features a pretty tie dye color scheme. The cowl neckline gives the dress a more classic style and this dress would be perfect as a wedding guest dress.

Side Twist Satin Blouse, Nordstrom

This blouse has an interesting twist detail at the waist, a luxurious satin material and a subtle neutral tie dye print. This blouse has a chic and classic style that would look so pretty with white skinny jeans.

Mid-rise Skinny Tie Dye Jeans, Banana Republic

Green and white tie dye skinny jeans

Every now and then I will wear a pair of jeans, and the subtle mint green and white tie print on these jeans is great for spring and summer. These jeans could be dressed up with a simple blouse and heels, or worn a bit more casually with a gray sweater and some slide-on mules.

Tie-Dyed Short Sleeve Shirt, Bloomingdales

Navy and white short sleeve tie dye shirt

I always love button-down shirts because of their simple and classic style. This top does have such a simple look but the bold navy and white tie dye look is so fun for summer. This top would look great with white skinny jeans or even a pair of sleek white shorts, or you could even dress it up for work by pairing it with a white pencil skirt and heels.

Tie-Dyed Midi Dress, Anthropologie

Neutral tie dye midi dress

This dress has a bit more of a casual material than some of the other items I have shared, but I love this color scheme and the skirt slit. Since this dress is more on the casual side, I would add a skinny nude or cognac belt around the waist with strappy heels and a pair of neutral-colored statement earrings.

Instead of ignoring this trend that isn’t going anywhere any time soon, I have decided to embrace it and adapt it more to my own personal style. Tie dye items can definitely be elevated, and I hope you were able to take some tips on how to wear tie dye with a classic style. Until next time!
